Who is Kevin Hofkin?

With his dad serving in the Marine Corps (like his father before him), Kevin Hofkin grew up as a typical “military brat,” moving from state to state. But in 1986, when he first set foot on Georgia soil, he knew he’d found home. Almost 40 years on, his roots here have grown strong and deep. As has his commitment to Liberty County and his fellow residents who live, work, and play here.

Early Career in Georgia

No stranger to hard work, Kevin’s first job in Georgia was being involved with the opening of the first Bumper to Bumper and moving up to store manager. Next, he moved on to a Goodyear store as owner/manager until 2006. Then he took a leap into the restaurant business by opening his first location in the Michael’s Deli & Seafood Franchise.

After opening two additional locations as well as purchasing Papa’s Pizza in Richmond Hill, Kevin overcame many business and personal challenges. This  marked a turning point in his life, igniting a desire to make a meaningful impact. Kevin exited the restaurant industry intent on providing hands-on service to the community.

Venture into Law Enforcement
Kevin Hofkin was among deputies who used own funds to purchase and hand out turkeys.

A friend suggested Kevin consider applying for a position as a deputy with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. Though it’s customary for a new hire to work in the jail for one to two years, Kevin’s enthusiasm and dedication paid off. With six months on the job, he was fast-tracked to the Law Enforcement Academy in Savannah. He began his field training as a deputy in 2017 and found great satisfaction in the job.

As he describes it, “I learned a lot about the needs of our residents, what it will take to meet those needs, and what type of team is needed to accomplish it. Working in law enforcement and serving the residents in our community was an honor and a privilege.”

Return to Business and New Ambitions

In 2021, Kevin made the difficult decision to resign from his position as deputy as a result of more life changes. With a friend and business partner, he reentered the business world with the purchase of Halfmoon Marina. Despite the marina exceeding goals for growth and sales, Kevin felt the same tug toward public service.

But this time, his sights were set higher: being elected Sheriff of Liberty County.

Decision to Run for Liberty County Sheriff

Kevin sought his wife’s opinion on this ambition, and she promptly answered by asking if he’d prayed about it. He had, and with her support, he decided to go for it. In his own words, “All in, whatever it takes!”

At age 52, Kevin has thrown his hat into the ring.

Current Endeavors and Commitment to Service

Kevin is proud of the success of his marina as well as the salon and boutique his wife runs with the assistance of his stepdaughter. Being a business owner allows him to serve the public in one sense. But now he feels it’s time to give back even more to the community that’s been so good to him and his family. He is completely committed to his run for Sheriff of Liberty County.

A Guiding Philosophy

In the words of Vince Lombardi, the legendary NFL coach, “There’s only one way to succeed in anything, and that is to give it everything.” Words that Kevin Hofkin lives – and serves – by.
